Students Find Gun Belonging To Off-Duty Chicago Police Officer At Catherine Cook Elementary

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Three elementary school students found a firearm belonging to an off-duty Chicago Police officer inside a school bathroom on Friday.

The officer was working security at Catherine Cook Elementary School, 226 W. Schiller in the Old Town neighborhood. The girls found the gun around 2:30 p.m. and alerted school staff, who then alerted school security, who secured the weapon, Chicago Police said.

An internal CPD investigation has been opened.
