Student Charged With Bringing Gun To West Side School

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Charges were filed against a student less than a day after police found a handgun at a West Side school, prompting a lockdown.

Julius Burke, 20, was charged with one felony count of unlawful use of a weapon, according to Chicago Police.

Officers responded to a call of a person with a gun at 1:37 p.m. Thursday, prompting a lockdown at the school in the 500 block of North Sacramento, police said. Investigators found a handgun in Burke's locker and ammunition in his sock. The lockdown was over by about 4 p.m.

Burke, of the 3400 block of West Adams, was scheduled to appear in bond court Friday.
