Strong Winds To Continue Through Thursday P.M.; Lighter But Still Strong Friday

CHICAGO (CBS) -- While heavy gusts that have buffeted the Chicago area since Wednesday night should gradually calm through the day on Thursday, stong winds were expected to continue through Friday.

Gusts of up to 50 mph were measured across the Chicago area overnight, with some gusts as strong as 64 mph over the lake.

According to the National Weather Service, a fall storm will continue to create gusts of 40 to 50 mph through mid-afternoon. A wind advisory for the area was scheduled to expire at 6 p.m.

After that point, strong winds will continue, though gusts should top out around 30 to 40 mph from Thursday night through Friday night.

Temperatures will get down to about 37 Thursday night, and get up only into the low 40s on Friday. The temperature could reach freezing Friday night, before conditions get back into the 50s over the weekend.
