Street Sweeper Crash On Inbound Edens Prompts Temporary Closure

NORTHFIELD, Ill. (STMW) -- Part of the inbound Edens Expressway (I-94) was closed for at least two hours early Thursday after a street sweeper truck collided with two SUVs near north suburban Northfield.

The three-vehicle crash happened about 1:40 a.m. on southbound I-94 near Willow Road, according to Illinois State Police.

No one was taken to the hospital after the crash, police said.

But the street sweeper spilled fuel across the highway, forcing police to close all lanes for at least two hours, police said. It was not immediately known which agency the street sweeper was from.

All lanes of the expressway were reopened to traffic as of 5:30 a.m., police said.

The cause of the crash was not immediately known as police investigate.
