Streamwood High School Student Charged After Gun Found Near School

STREAMWOOD, Ill. (STMW) -- A northwest suburban Streamwood High School student was charged Friday after a weapon was found near the school.

Amid rumors that a gun had been brought to school, the building was put on lockdown while a search was conducted using police K-9 units from several suburban police departments, a release from the Streamwood Police Department said. The lockdown began at 2:30 p.m. and extended until 3:50 p.m.

The weapon was recovered just outside the property line of Streamwood High School in an adjacent residential subdivision, police said.

The male student has been charged with unlawful use of a weapon on school grounds, aggravated battery to a police officer and resisting arrest, police said.

His name is not being released because he is a juvenile, police said. He was taken to the Cook County Juvenile Detention Center in Chicago on Saturday.
