Stolen BBQ Smoker Returned To Chicago, Thanks To Social Media Campaign

(CBS) -- A barbecue smoker stolen from a bar in Lakeview has been found.

WBBM's Rob Hart reports.

The smoker, called "The Black Pearl," disappeared from Toons in the Southport corridor last month.

Co-owner Danny Beck thought it was gone for good. "We had pretty much written it off," he says.

Jeremy Hicks, owner of Hicks Barbecue in Rochelle, saw a social media post about the missing smoker and thought it looked an awful lot like the one he had just purchased off of Craigslist.

Hicks says the seller had a convincing story. He called Beck and soon Beck was reunited with the Black Pearl.

Beck reimbursed Hicks for the $1,000 he paid to the thief, who's still out there.
