Stevenson HS Student, Parents Killed In Arizona Crash

(STMW) -- A Vernon Hills couple and their teenage son were killed, and their young daughter injured, in a traffic crash in Arizona over spring break.

Stevenson High student Yuki Hirayama, his father Tomohiro Hirayama, and his mother Sachiyo Hirayama died in the crash last week, according to Stevenson representative Susan Breckheimer.

Hirayama's 9-year-old sister, a student at Half Day School, survived and remains at a hospital, according to school officials.

The family lived in Vernon Hills, having moved to the area within the past year, Breckheimer said.

Hirayama, 16, had transferred to Stevenson at the beginning of the school year, the school said. He was part of a fencing program and was a member of the Stevenson Patriots in New Situations, a club for transfer students.
