State Police To Start Using Aircraft, Unmarked Vehicles To Curb Expressway Shootings

(CBS) -- Illinois State Police say they're starting a new approach to try to stop shootings on Chicago expressways.

State Police say they will now be using aircraft, unmarked vehicles, video cameras and undercover officers in their efforts to cut down on the number of expressway shootings.

They say besides the obvious risk to public safety, expressway shootings tie up traffic, sometimes for hours, when lanes have to be closed for an investigation.

State Police say they're putting more uniformed officers on the expressways around Chicago.

The new, more intense approach has an acronym: Chicago Expressway Anti-violence Surge or CEASe.
