Spotty Storms Friday Afternoon Ahead Of Chilly Weekend

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Scattered showers and storms Friday afternoon will usher in cooler weather for the weekend ahead.

Friday will be warm and muggy, with temperatures reaching the low 80s, and spotty showers and storms firing up in the afternoon. Some of those storms could reach severe limits – possibly generating hail, gusty winds, and heavy downpours – with a marginal risk of severe weather on Friday.

Then, as a cold front moves in overnight, more organized showers and storms will move in from the west, with forecast models showing the most likely storm activity in the far western and far northern suburbs.

Skies should clear Saturday morning, but cooler temperatures will dominate over the weekend, with a high of only about 60 early Saturday, followed by temperatures dropping throughout the day.

On Sunday, temperatures will range from the middle 40s to high 50s, before temperatures gradually return to normal early next week. Monday's high is expected to be about 63, followed by 72 on Tuesday, 80 on Wednesday, and 82 on Thursday.
