Sports Illustrated Features Ernie Banks On Regional Cover

(CBS) Sports Illustrated has recognized Cubs icon Ernie Banks by putting him on its regional cover this week. Readers in the Midwest will receive the magazine with the below classic portrait of Banks on the cover.

Chicago native Rich Cohen wrote a piece remembering Banks, the Hall of Fame infielder affectionately known as "Mr. Cub" who passed away last Friday at 83.

"For all the pain, for all the losing, I would take Ernie and the Cubs over the Yankees and their 27 championships any day," Cohen wrote.

Banks' statue has been moved to Daley Plaza and will remain as the centerpiece for a public memorial hosted by the Cubs and the city today. A public visitation for Banks has been scheduled for Friday, from noon to 8 p.m. at Fourth Presbyterian Church, 126 E. Chestnut St. A memorial service has been scheduled for Saturday at 10 a.m.
