A Perspective To The Latest Spike In COVID Cases In Illinois

CHICAGO (CBS) --  Illinois has seen a recent spike of COVID cases during the week -- here's a closer look into the numbers to provide a little perspective.

Since Dec. 1, there have been more than 58,000 new cases confirmed in Illinois. Just over 3,100 people statewide are now hospitalized with COVID.

Less than 1% of those hospitalized in the past week is breakthrough infections -- meaning they were fully vaccinated.
