Sparkle Light Festival opens Wednesday at Impact Field in Rosemont

Rosemont kicks off annual Sparkle Light Festival

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The Village of Rosemont is getting into the holiday spirit on Wednesday, kicking off their outdoor Sparkle Light Festival at Impact Field.

Organizers have partnered with the Chicago Dogs baseball team, and are calling this festival their premier light display this winter, complete with a two-story ice slide and more.

Organizer Shawn Hunter said millions of holiday lights will be on display – making for a number of picture-perfect sights

"It's a brand new show, and Sparkle Light Festival is actually one of the largest holiday events in the country. We have almost 2 million lights. All of our structures are brand new this year. The village owns half the show, the Dogs own half. We have five illuminated villages. We've got the largest tubing hill in the region, and we've got a free train that people can ride with their general admission ticket – the Holly Jolly Train. So it's really something for everyone this holiday season," Hunter said.

Hunter said the Chicago Dogs are one of the only baseball teams in the country to put on a show of this size.

"It's not only one of the biggest, but I think the kids are going to love it. The attractions, some of the features, some of the big ornaments if you will, are almost 60 feet tall. So they're like what we would see on a giant parade, but they're all there in one area for people to enjoy and get pictures," Hunter said.

All parts of the Impact Field ballpark will be part of the festival.

"This year, we even lit the seats. So almost every inch of the field is there for entertaining, and I think kids will love the new tubing hills," Hunter said. "We specially built it this year with a new feature, so it's a little bit taller and longer, and the train – which was so popular last year – is back again."

The festival also will feature an all-inclusive buffet in the club lounge.

The festival runs from Wednesday through Jan. 1. Tickets are $25 for adults and $20 for kids.
