Southbound I-55 reopens near Cass Ave. in Darien hours after fatal crash

Truck driver killed when semi cab rolls over on Interstate 55

At least one person died when a semi-tractor truck without a trailer crashed and flipped over in a ditch along the Stevenson Expressway near Darien, Illinois, shutting down the southbound lanes for nearly six hours.

Illinois State Police responded to crash just before 12:30 p.m. in the southbound lanes of Interstate 55 near Cass Avenue. A semi tractor, without a trailer, had rolled over into a ditch, and the driver was killed.

All southbound lanes of I-55 were shut down at Illinois Route 83 until about 6:30 p.m. as investigators reconstructed the crash, and heavy duty tow trucks hauled away the truck.

State police have not released any further information.
