South Suburban Volunteer Coach Charged With Sex Abuse

JOLIET, Ill. (STMW) -- A volunteer gymnastics coach at south suburban Lincoln-Way Community High School District 210 — who was a former gymnastics state champion for the district — has been charged with sexually abusing a female student.

Isaac Kruspe, 20, is charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse and criminal sexual assault for having sex with a 15-year-old girl whom he coached, New Lenox police said.

District 210 employees got information about a volunteer coach involved in an inappropriate relationship with a student and immediately turned over the information to police, according to a statement from District 210 spokeswoman Stacy Holland.

Police learned of the allegation March 10, and Kruspe was arrested March 19 after an investigation determined he had sex on more than one occasion with the girl, Deputy Police Chief Robert Pawlisz said.

Pawlisz would not comment on the location of the sexual activity, saying that could potentially could identify the girl.

Kruspe coached in the District 210 co-op gymnastics program from Dec. 13, 2013 to March 10, Holland said. He passed the American Sport Education Program test, received a certificate and passed state and federal criminal background checks, she said.

While a junior at Lincoln-Way East and a member of District 210's co-op gymnastics team, Kruspe was the state champion in 2010 in three events — floor exercise, still rings and the horizontal bar — but did not compete during his senior year.

Kruspe, of the 11600 block of Stephanie Lane in Mokena, was ordered held on $250,000 bond at the Will County Jail, according to the sheriff's department website. He will next appear in court in Joliet on April 17.
