South Suburban Man Charged With Naperville Bank Robbery
NAPERVILLE, Ill. (STMW) -- A south suburban man suspected of robbing a west suburban Naperville bank Friday afternoon was charged Saturday and ordered held without bond.
Kevin Johnson, 30, of the 14300 block of Bensley Avenue in Burnham, faces one felony count of bank robbery for stealing an undisclosed amount of cash from the PNC Bank at 9 E. Ogden Ave. in Naperville about 2:30 p.m. Friday, FBI spokeswoman Joan Hyde said in a release.
Johnson demanded money from a bank teller and, while keeping his right hand inside his coat pocket to imply he had a weapon, threatened to shoot the teller if his demands weren't met, Hyde said. No one was hurt during the robbery.
Johnson was taken into custody without incident a short time later at his place of employment in Naperville, Hyde said.
He is also suspected of robbing an American Chartered Bank, at 2205 Butterfield Rd. in west suburban Downers Grove on Jan. 17, but he has not been charged for that robbery.
If convicted, Johnson faces up to 20 years in federal prison, Hyde said.
On Saturday, a U.S. Magistrate Judge ordered Johnson held without bond, Hyde said. He is next scheduled to appear in court Feb. 20.
