South Suburban Man Charged In Hegewisch Shooting

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man from south suburban Richton Park has been charged with shooting two people in the Hegewisch neighborhood on the Far South Side over the weekend.

William Cowart, 50, faces two felony counts of aggravated battery with a firearm in connection with the June 3 shooting in the 13500 block of South Torrence, according to a police. Cowart, of the 22400 block of Riverside Drive in Richton Park, is scheduled to appear in bond court Wednesday.

Police said that about 9:50 p.m. Friday, Cowart shot two men, ages 40 and 44, in the legs before fleeing the scene. The shooting followed an argument involving all three, police said at the time.

Both victims taken to St. Margaret's Hospital in Hammond, where their conditions were stabilized.
