South Side Man Charged With Selling Illegal Cigarettes

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A South Side clerk was arrested Wednesday for bringing cigarettes from Missouri to Illinois to sell illegally at a South Chicago neighborhood gas station.

Saer Gueye, 50, faces one state count of possession of unstamped cigarettes and one municipal code count of no cigarette tax stamp, Chicago police said in a release.

Officers investigating complaints of narcotics sales near the 2900 block of East 83rd Street spoke to an individual who showed them a pack of cigarettes, recently purchased at the Citgo gas station, which bore an out-of-state tax stamp, police said.

At the gas station, officers recovered 59 packages of cigarettes with Missouri tax stamps and more than $200,000, police said.

Gueye, of the 2900 block of East 83rd Street, is scheduled to appear in court March 31 at Branch 35, at 737 E. 111th St.
