5 South Side school children hospitalized after vaping from found pen, 'laughing uncontrollably'

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Five boys were taken to hospitals from an Auburn Park neighborhood elementary school Wednesday afternoon, after police said they drew from a vape pen and started "laughing uncontrollably."

The boys – all 9 and 10 years old – found the vape pen in gym class at the Harvard School of Excellence, 7525 S. Harvard Ave., police said.

Police did not specify the substance that was in the vape pen, but they said after drawing from it, the boys were seen "laughing uncontrollably."

Two of the boys were taken to St. Bernard Hospital, three to the University of Chicago's Comer Children's Hospital.

Detectives are investigating.
