South Shore Woman Charged In Fatal Shooting

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A woman charged with allegedly shooting a man to death following a domestic argument about whether or not a gun would fire was ordered held on a $250,000 bond Saturday.

Joeann Smith, 52, faces one count of reckless discharge of a firearm after she allegedly shot 65-year-old Willie Smith in the eye on Wednesday in the 1700 block of East 72nd Street, police said.

According to police, the two were arguing about whether or not a gun would fire when Smith pointed the weapon at the man's face and fired.

Willie, of the 500 block of North Des Plaines Street, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced brain-dead at 9 a.m. Friday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Smith was ordered held on $250,000 during a bond hearing Saturday, according to the Cook County Sheriff's office. She is next scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.
