Man, 61, shot and killed in South Shore

61-year-old man killed in South Shore shooting

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 61-year-old man was shot and killed Friday afternoon in the South Shore neighborhood.

Police and witnesses said the man was on the sidewalk in the 7600 block of South Marquette Avenue around 12:30 p.m., when at least two people walked up to him, pulled out guns, and shot him in the chest. Police originally reported the location of the shooting as the 7700 block of South Saginaw Avenue, but later said it happened on Marquette Avenue.

The victim was taken to South Shore Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He has been identified as Kenneth Mickey.

The shooters fled south on Marquette Avenue after the shooting.

Investigators placed more than a dozen evidence markers on the sidewalk and area surrounding where the man was shot.

Area Two detectives were investigating.
