Man Found Dead In Garbage Can In South Shore

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man was found dead in a garbage can in South Shore Saturday morning.

At 8:54 a.m., the man in his 40s was found dead face down in the garbage can by Department of Streets and Sanitation workers in the alley behind 7200 block of South Jeffery Boulevard, police said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

As CBS 2's Marissa Parra reported, police tape was still up at the scene eight hours later.

The scene is surrounded by apartment buildings, and Jeffery Boulevard is a major street that carries lots of traffic. There is also a busy strip mall nearby.

Many people talked with Parra near the scene. None said they knew anything about the man's death, but they all said it came as a shock.

Detectives were conducting a death investigation late Saturday. They were still canvassing the scene as of 5 p.m., and want to hear from anyone with information.
