Chicago police investigating apparent South Deering smash-and-grab at shoe store

Chicago police are investigating a smash-and-grab robbery at a shoe store in South Deering.

CBS Skywatch was over the scene near 95th and Stony Island where a Jeep was left behind in front of a Snipes shoe store. The store had smashed glass and a gaping hole in its front.

Chicago police said shortly after 6 a.m., a group of thieves smashed an SUV into the store, went inside and took cash registers and merchandise. Then they got into a different car and drove off east, leaving the SUV at the scene. 

No injuries were reported, Chicago police said, and no one is currently in custody.

An investigation by Area Two detectives is ongoing.
