2 Dead, 2 Injured In West Side Fire
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Two people were killed, and two others were injured in a house fire in the South Austin neighborhood Thursday morning.
Firefighters responded to the fire at a 1 ½-story house at Race and Lockwood avenues around 10 a.m. There were reports of people trapped when they arrived.

Fire officials said two victims who suffered smoke inhalation and burns were taken were taken to West Suburban Hospital in critical condition. Those victims, an 86-year-old man and a 61-year-old woman, later died, according to police and fire officials and the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
West Race fire update: There are 2 confirmed fatalities (1 adult female and 1 adult male). Investigation has revealed at least one working smoke detector with other smoke detectors present but destroyed in the fire.

Police said an 88-year-old woman also was taken to West Suburban, where her condition was stabilized. Police and fire officials said a man in his 60s was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in fair to serious condition.
A 24-year-old woman who was in the home refused medical attention at the scene, according to police.
The fire was struck out by about 10:30 a.m.
Fire officials said there was at least one working smoke detector in the home. Other smoke detectors were destroyed in the fire.
