Someone You Should Know: The Towns Brothers

(CBS) – They are three brothers, all of them artists who perform for children, creating drawings that illustrate a story.

CBS 2's Harry Porterfield says they are all someone you should know.

How can three artists create a single picture within minutes, working simultaneously? Well, the Towns brothers can show you. One of them came up with the idea. Former Art Institute instructor Dr. John Towns calls it "Sketch N Tyme."

"We were kind of doing some stuff in the studio one day, in our personal studios, and we just started to draw to some nonsense that we made up ... It started to turn into something," John Towns says.

The brothers recently appeared at the Bronzeville Children's Museum to fascinate an audience of wide-eyed school kids.

"It still fascinating to us, and just to hear mothers say, 'My kids will not sit down for anything, but they actually sat down and kept quiet for you guys,'" another brother, Darnell Towns, says.
