Without further adieu, as we are all running on borrowed time, here are some facts about death in the United States, based on 2013 Census data, unless otherwise noted.

Number of deaths: 2,596,993

Death rate: 821.5 deaths per 100,000 population

Life expectancy: 78.8 years (It was around 60, back in the 1930s, according to the CDC.)

Infant Mortality rate: 5.96 deaths per 1,000 live births

Heart disease: 611,105
Cancer: 584,881
Chronic lower respiratory diseases: 149,205
Accidents (unintentional injuries): 130,557
Stroke (cerebrovascular diseases): 128,978
Alzheimer's disease: 84,767

Heart disease and cancer have maintained the top two death positions for the past 75 years.

Between 2006 and 2010, 5,865 Americans died from heat (2,027), cold (3,192) or floods (646).
