Snowiest Winters In Chicago: 2014 Cracks Top 5

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Winter 2014 now ranks as one of the snowiest in Chicago.
The 6.9 inches at O'Hare International Airport on Tuesday/Wednesday placed this season as the fourth-heaviest (season to date) for snow since records started being kept in the 1880s.
The likelihood of jumping to No. 3 is almost certain.
So far, Chicago has gotten 58.6 inches of snow, just behind the winter of 1917-18, which saw 59.9 inches. January was the third-snowiest month ever in the city.
There is a chance for more snow on Saturday.
The back-to-back nightmare that was the late 70s, rank as the worst for snow.
The snowiest Chicago ever at this point in the season came in 1978-79 (80.6 inches) and 1977-1978 (71.2 inches). Back then, motorists took to attaching tall orange flags on their vehicles, so that other drivers could see over the snow piles.
The winter of 1966-67 comes in at No. 5 with 58.1 inches, which includes the infamous blizzard on 1967, which a record 23 inches fell in a single day.
