Snow Gives Way To Dangerous Subzero Temperatures

(CBS) – The "lake effect" clobbered the Chicago region with more than a foot of snow in many areas.
Next come the subzero -- and dangerous -- temperatures.
Chicago was expected to feel the chill of zero degrees, but outlying counties were under a wind chill advisory through Friday morning, due to air temperatures as cold as 13 below zero, and wind chills up to 30 below.
The worst will begin Sunday night, when the mercury will dip below zero, and won't get back above zero until sometime Wednesday -- with the forecast calling for a high temperature of 5 below zero on Monday, and 1 below zero on Tuesday, CBS 2 Meteorologist Steve Baskerville reports. Overnight temperatures on Monday could drop as low as 15 below zero.
Before that, the snow that has fallen the past couple days could cause more problems for drivers. A winter weather advisory for Cook County anticipates blowing and drifting Friday evening through 9 a.m. Saturday. Visibility will be limited.
The Chicago area could get a couple more inches of snow on Saturday/Sunday with the potential for a bit more in the far southern suburbs and Northwest Indiana. A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for those areas.
The city of Chicago sent is snow fleet out in force this week but didn't get around to side streets until Thursday evening.
