Sneakers Worn By Michael Jordan During Rookie Season Sell For More Than $71K

(CBS) -- A pair of sneakers worn by Michael Jordan during his rookie year with the Chicago Bulls just sold for $71,553.

The Nike Air Ships were auctioned off on behalf of Khalid Ali. Ali was a ball boy with the LA Lakers for the 84-85 season.

"At the end of the game, Khalid Ali went over by the Bulls locker room, kind of waited patiently, and true to form Jordan came out and handed him the shoes with signatures on both," said Terry Melia with SCP Auctions.

Jordan wore the shoes for the Chicago Bull's December 2, 1984 game against the LA Lakers.

The Nike Air Ships are made of white leather canvas with a red swoosh, a red upper heel, and red soles, according to SCP Auctions.

These are the second pair to sell at such a high price. In 2013 pair of Jordan's shoes worn during the flu game of 1997 sold for just over $104,000.
