Sleeping Cop In Online Video Gets Unpaid Suspension

(CBS) – A Chicago police officer seen in an online video sleeping in his police vehicle has been suspended for five days without pay, officials said.

The officer himself came forward after the story broke earlier this week, a spokesman for the Chicago Police Department said.

"This incident is unacceptable and not in keeping with the high expectations placed on our officers by this department and the residents of Chicago," the spokesman said.

The department launched an investigation after the video of the officer sleeping soundly in a police SUV was posted online over the weekend and went viral.

The video was filmed in broad daylight at 63rd Street and Campbell Avenue.

Police officers get two breaks and lunch during their shift but are not allowed to sleep in their vehicles.

A spokesman for the police union said the unnamed officer will serve the suspension and won't appeal.
