Six-Year-Old Girl Shot On Porch Welcomed Back From Hospital

(CBS) – Balloons, gifts and Chicago police officers helped welcome a six-year-old Chicago girl home from the hospital Monday, less than a week after she was hit by a stray bullet.

CBS 2's Dana Kozlov reports.

Tacarra Morgan is playing like any other child on a warm summer day. That's amazing, really, when you consider what happened to her just six days ago.

"I got shot," she says.

She was shot on a front porch in Englewood at one in the afternoon.

Tacarra had surgery, was sedated and intubated for more than a day. Her mom says despite being shot, none of her organs suffered permanent damage.

Marks from the hail of bullets that hit the girl are still apparent. Police tell the family they came from four different guns.

Although one family member expressed fear about sitting on the porch in the wake of the shooting, that's exactly what everyone did Monday, to celebrate little Tacarra's homecoming and survival.
