Seven Children Injured At A Chicago Carnival

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Multiple children were injured Saturday afternoon at the 87th Street Carnival, on 87th Street near Holland Road.

Six children on a roller coaster at a carnival in Chatham were injured when the ride came to an abrupt stop, authorities said.

About 3:30 p.m., six children hit their heads when the ride suddenly stopped at the 21st Ward Carnival at 8800 S. Lafayette Ave., Chicago Police said. Five of the children were 5-7 years old.An additional child, who was not on the ride was taken to the hospital, per a parent's request.

Four people were taken to Cromer Hospital and three people were taken to St. Bernards Hospital, said CFD. All seven children are in good condition.

Sources told CBS 2's Audrina Bigos that the incident happened on the mini dragon roller coaster for kids.

The ride is closed, but the carnival remains open. Carnival staff is denying that anything happened.

CBS 2 reached out to the amusement company and is awaiting a comment.
