Sinkhole In New Lenox On Gougar Road

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Chopper 2 spotted a sink hole on Gougar Road in New Lenox Tuesday morning.

The area was blocked off just before between Ellis and Spencer before 7 a.m. with a large crack in the road. Nelson is the best alternative.

The Will County Division of Transportation said it was caused by the recent large amounts of rain and began to wash away Friday night.

The gravel around the pipe underneath the road began to go downstream. The pipe was supposed to be replaced soon because it had become deteriorated.

The hole goes across the entire width of the road.

There's another hole on Tulley Road between Kennedy Road and County Line Road in Wilton Township, Will County DOT said. It happened around the same time and is similar in size.

That pipe was also supposed to be replaced soon due to deterioration.

The two trouble spots are 14 miles apart.

There is no exact time frame of when they will be fixed.

Crews have been out since Friday looking for other issues.
