2 Dead, 5 Wounded In Shootings Wednesday Across Chicago

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Two men were killed and five other people were wounded in shootings across Chicago Wednesday, police said.

A man was shot to death Wednesday night in the West Pullman neighborhood on the Far South Side.

The 32-year-old man was on foot in the 12100 block of South Throop when someone fired at him about 8:30 p.m., according to Chicago Police. He was shot in the face and head and taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was later pronounced dead. The Cook County medical examiner's office could not immediately confirm the death.

Earlier Wednesday afternoon, a man was shot and killed in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

Officers responding to a call of a person shot found the 21-year-old unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the chest at 3:44 p.m. in the 3500 block of West 64th, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The medical examiner's office confirmed his death but did not release further details.

The most recent nonfatal shooting happened late Wednesday in the Ashburn neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

Officers responding to reports of a person shot in the 7700 block of South Homan about 11:20 p.m. found the 59-year-old man on a porch with a gunshot wound to the neck, according to police. He was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in serious condition.

Several hours earlier, a teenage boy was shot in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side. The 16-year-old was shot in the ankle shortly before 8 p.m. in the 4800 block of South Laflin, police said. His condition and hospital information were not immediately available.

About 5:30 p.m., a man was shot and a teenage boy was injured in a West Town neighborhood park. The 20-year-old man was in Smith Park in the 500 block of North Campbell about 5:30 p.m. when he got into an argument with two other males, according to police. During the argument, one of the males pulled out a gun and started shooting. The man was shot in the leg and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in good condition.

A 15-year-old boy who was also in the park at the time of the attack was taken to Presence Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center, police said. Investigators initially believed that he had suffered a graze wound to the thigh, but doctors later determined he had actually suffered bruising that might have been caused by flying debris. He was listed in good condition.

A police source said the 20-year-old is a documented gang member and investigators believe the shooting was gang-related.

Just over half an hour earlier, a man was shot in the South Shore neighborhood on the South Side. The 26-year-old was outside in the 1600 block of East 69th Place at 4:54 p.m. when he was shot in the back, police said. A friend drove him to Jackson Park Hospital and Medical Center, and he was later transferred to Stroger Hospital in critical condition.
