Three people wounded in shooting outside mini-mart in Beach Park
BEACH PARK, Ill. (CBS) -- Three people were wounded after a shooting that was reported Tuesday afternoon outside a mini-mart in far north suburban Beach Park.
The incident happened outside Hoeksema's Mini-Mart Beer & Liquor, at Lewis Avenue and Wadsworth Road.
Lake County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the business parking lot around 1:15 p.m., according to a news release.
A responding deputy found a vehicle pulled to the side of the road in the area of Wadsworth and Gabriel Avenue. Three people with gunshot wounds were inside the vehicle.
A preliminary investigation found the three victims met the shooting suspect in the parking lot of the business. They spoke for a period of time and an argument "erupted," police said.
Before the offender fled in a separate vehicle, he fired numerous shots at the victims, striking them, as they were in their vehicle.
The victims then fled from the scene in their vehicle just before deputies arrived about a mile away.
Two of the shooting victims were adult men. One remains in critical condition and one remains in serious condition.
The other victim is an adult woman who's condition had stabilized, police said.
All three were transported to area hospitals via ambulance.
Police said the shooting does not appear to be gang-related.
At least two dozen evidence markers were spotted at the scene as investigators from the Lake County Sheriff's office investigated. Shattered glass was also seen outside the mini-mart.
