1 Dead After Shooting On Edens Expressway Near Elston Avenue

CHICAGO (CBS)-- One person is dead after a shooting on the Edens Expressway near Elston Avenue overnight.

Illinois State Police responded to a shooting on I-94 near Elston around 12:20 a.m.

When troopers arrived, they found a person who had been shot, and SUV with several bullet holes in the driver's side door and front window. The victim was taken to the hospital, and pronounced dead. The victim's name, age, and gender have not been released.

It was not immediately clear if the victim was the driver or a passenger of the SUV.

Police shut down the northbound lanes of the Edens for about three hours as they investigated, but all lanes reopened before the morning rush.

It was at least the 75th shooting on a Chicago area expressway this year.
