Two people were injured and multiple vehicles were damaged by gunfire in a shootout in Aurora, Illinois, Friday morning.

Police said they responded to reports of gunfire in the 2000 block of W. Downer Place just after 9:30 a.m. Officers were told people in at least two cars had been shooting at each other in a parking lot.

Police found a 25-year-old man with a gunshot wound near Downer Place and Edgelawn Drive. He was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries and later left on his own, police said.

A short time later a second man with a gunshot wound took himself to another local hospital for treatment and was released. Police said they believe both men were injured in the shootout.

Additionally, multiple cars were struck by gunfire and damaged, police said.

Several nearby schools and daycares were temporarily put on hold-in-place status during the initial investigation, but that was lifted. Police said they believe the shootout was targeted and there is no threat to the broader community.
