Police shoot, kill man while responding to domestic violence call at suburban Chicago apartment complex

Man shot and killed by police following domestic incident

CAROL STREAM, Ill. (CBS) – A man was shot and killed by police who were responding to a domestic incident in Carol Stream Saturday morning.

The shooting happened around 4:15 a.m. at the Villagebrook Apartments at 260 E. St. Charles Road.

Carol Stream police said officers were responding to a reported domestic violence incident at the complex. Upon arrival, officers encountered a "tense, uncertain, and rapidly evolving situation" that led officers to discharge their weapons at the alleged suspect, said Brian Cluever, acting chief of Carol Stream Police.

Police are not saying exactly what type of threat led to the shooting. They now say two officers discharged their weapons.

A 30-year-old man was taken to Central DuPage Hospital with critical injuries and was pronounced dead. Police have identified him as Isaac Goodlow III.

No officers were hurt during the incident, and there is no threat to the public, police said.

The family at the scene questioned why Goodlow was shot.

"All I know is that they said him and the girl was in an altercation," said Goodlow's niece Dajanaes Barnes. "They said my uncle threw something at the officer, and they aimed at him."

His family is left with a lot more questions than answers.

"Why did y'all shoot him? What went down?" said Michael Pigram, Goodlow's brother.

"My uncle was not a dangerous guy," said Barnes. "He was not in the streets. He was not anything of the above. He didn't own a gun or a weapon or anything."

Police say body camera footage is being reviewed as the Public Integrity Team with the DuPage Metropolitan Emergency Response and Investigative Team investigates the incident. The two officers who discharged their weapons have been placed on paid leave during the investigation.

"The Carol Stream Police Department extends its sincerest condolences to the family and friends of the individual who lost their life this morning," said Cluever.

Police said further information will be released once available through the Village of Carol Stream and the police department's website and social media.
