Seven Dogs Found In Trunk Near Mag Mile; Two Men Arrested

(STMW) -- Two out-of-state men are facing animal cruelty charges after police found seven dogs in a vehicle's trunk Friday on the Near North Side.

About 12:30 p.m. Friday, officers responded to a call of animal abuse in the 0-100 block of East Chestnut and located the dogs, police said.

They then arrested 28-year-old Hugo Santamaria, of California, and 47-year-old Vito Stramaglia, of Ohio. Circumstances around the arrest were not known Sunday evening.

The men were each charged with a misdemeanor count of animal cruelty, police said. The dogs were given to Animal Care and Control. Further details weren't available.
