Sen. Kirk: Changes Needed At The Top At Hines VA Hospital

(CBS) – U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk is calling for change at the top of the Hines Veterans Hospital in west suburban Maywood.

Kirk says five cases had to be settled in court after treatment delays harmed Hines VA patients.

And he says that top Hines administrators received bonuses more than $16 million while veterans were suffering through treatment delays.

He apologized to veterans and said Hines has a culture of corruption in a bureaucracy run amok.

He said the Hines Medical Director should go, as well as some of the top administrators, though he didn't specify which.
