Semi Overturned, 1 Hurt In Crash On I-294 In Alsip

ALSIP, Ill. (STMW) -- One person suffered minor injuries and three lanes were closed for nearly 30 minutes during the morning rush Friday after three semi trucks were involved in a crash on the Tristate Tollway in south suburban Alsip.

A red Hyundai entering northbound I-294 from South Cicero Avenue lost control, spun out and struck a semi about 7 a.m., Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Carlita Joe said.

That semi veered, and struck another semi traveling north, Joe said. After the second semi was hit, it flipped over and struck a third semi parked on the right shoulder.

The driver of the Hyundai suffered minor injuries, but refused medical treatment, Joe said.

Three of the tollway's four lanes were closed for nearly 30 minutes, Joe said.

No citations had been issued as of 10:30 a.m., but ISP is still investigating.
