Security Guard Shoots Man Who Attacked Woman With Brick

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A security guard shot a man Sunday night, while trying to help a woman who was being attacked Sunday night on the Near West Side, police said.

Shortly after 10 p.m., the security guard saw a 30-year-old man threatening a woman with a brick in the 2300 block of West Jackson Boulevard, according to Chicago police.

The security guard tried to stop the man, who turned on him, and tried to hit him with the brick. The guard then shot the man in the chest.

The man fled the scene, and later checked himself n at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, police said. He was in serious condition Monday morning.

Area Central detectives were investigating. No charges had been filed as of 6:45 a.m. Monday.
