Second Man Charged With Murder Of Elderly Barber
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A second man has been charged with robbing an elderly barber who was on his way to work last month.
WBBM Newsradio's Mike Krauser reports 24-year-old Clarence Sams has been charged with first-degree murder and robbery.
Police said Sams and 29-year-old Samuel Higgins pushed 88-year-old Arthur Hearn to the ground around 5 a.m. on Sept. 25, while Hearn was waiting for the bus to go to work.
The attack was caught on surveillance video. Police said Sams acted as a lookout while Higgins went through Hearn's pockets, as he laid on the ground, critically injured.
Hearn died three days later.
Police initially said they believed it was a man and woman who were spotted on surveillance video, but prosecutors said Higgins was dressed as a woman at the time of the robbery.
Sams was due for a bond hearing on Wednesday. Higgins, who has six previous felony convictions, including prostitution, was being held on a $1 million bond.
