Seattle Man Facing Attempted Murder Charge Dies Of Gunshot Wounds At Chicago Hospital

(STMW) -- A Seattle man who was shot in early May in Calumet City and later charged with attempted murder died Friday morning.

Filmon N. Rezene, 25, was shot on May 4 in Calumet City and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead just before 9 a.m. on Friday, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office and sheriff's office spokeswoman Sophia Ansari.

An exact block address for the shooting was not known.

An autopsy performed Saturday ruled the death a homicide and found Rezene died of complications from multiple gunshot wounds.

Cook County sheriff's officers held Rezene in custody at the hospital on May 9 for charges of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery with a firearm, according to Ansari and court records. A judge at the south suburban Markham courthouse ordered Rezene held on a $1 million bond.

Details about why Rezene was charged were not known Saturday evening, and Calumet City police could not immediately comment.
