Crystal Lake Schools Go On 'Soft Lockdown' As Police Search For Missing Teen

(CBS) -- Several schools in northwest suburban Crystal Lake were on "soft lockdown" Monday after the disappearance of an 18-year-old whom police described as being despondent.

Police were looking for Adrian Salazar, who left his residence late Sunday evening and never returned. Authorities said Salazar may be in possession of a firearm, but they added there's no indication he poses a threat to others.

Salazar is 5'6" tall and weighs approximately 125 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes and was last seen wearing a black sweater and black pants. He is a student at Crystal Lake Central High School.

Dismissal from High School District 155, Prairie Grove District 46 and Crystal Lake District 47 went as usual, but during the day students were not allowed to leave their buildings.

District 155 spokesman Jeff Puma says extra police were on hand when students left but the administration did not believe students were in any danger.

After-school activities went on as planned.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crystal Lake police at 815-356-3741 or 815-356-3620.
