The bus driver later died.

At 4:06 p.m., a 39-year-old man was driving the school bus on northbound DuSable Lake Shore Drive near Ohio Street when he suffered a medical emergency and lost control, striking the median.

The boys on the bus – ages 9 and 12 – were taken to the University of Chicago's Comer Children's Hospital for observation. They were in good condition.

Following the crash, three northbound lanes were closed for first responders.

The driver, Christopher Johnson, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he died.
