Schneider Ousts Dold In 10th District

(CBS) -- Democrat Brad Schneider beat Republican incumbent Bob Dold in the race for Illinois' 10th Congressional District.

It was the latest rematch between the two candidates in the northern suburbs.

Schneider addressed supporters at 11 p.m. Tuesday, when election returns showed he had edged Dold by a 52-percent-to-48-percent margin. He said Dold had just called him to concede.

Dold first won the congressional seat in 2010 after Republican incumbent Mark Kirk moved to the U.S. Senate. In 2012, Democrat Schneider defeated Dold, only to be defeated two years later.

The latest race was considered a tight one, given voters' familiarity with both candidates.

Also Tuesday, Kirk lost his bid for re-election to the U.S. Senate.
