Schiller Park Firefighter Facing Child Porn Charges

(STMW) -- A northwest suburban firefighter faces multiple child pornography charges after found images on his computer when they searched the firehouse, according to prosecutors.

Edward Mendelson, 47, of Chicago, is charged with two counts of dissemination of child pornography and two counts of possession of child pornography, according to a statement from the Cook County State's Attorney's office.

Investigators executed a search warrant at the Schiller Park Fire Department after determining subscriber information for a computer in question was tied to that location, prosecutors said.

Authorities seized Mendelson's personal laptop computer and found numerous video and picture files of children younger than 13, prosecutors claim.

The forensic examination also found images of children between 13 and 17 depicted in acts of sexual conduct and sexual penetration, prosecutors claim.

Judge Stanley Hill ordered Mendelson held on a $150,000 bond at a hearing Friday in Maywood, according to the state's attorney's office. He will next appear in court April 30.

A spokesperson for the village of Schiller Park could not be reached for comment Friday afternoon.

Chicago Police and the state's attorney's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force investigated the case.
