Man Runs From Police, Jumps Into Des Plaines River

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man running from police jumped into the Des Plaines River early Thursday in northwest suburban Schiller Park.

At 2:35 a.m., officers responded to a call of four people going through vehicles in the 4100 block of Bobby Lane, according to Schiller Park police.

Two male suspects were arrested after a brief foot chase, police said. Two others got away.

During a search of the area, a stolen vehicle was found in the 9200 block of Irving Park Road that contained several stolen items, burglary tools, drugs and a weapon, police said.

Officers then got a call of a suspicious person in the 4200 block of River Road who matched the description of one of the suspects.

When officers arrived, they saw a male run east across River Road and jump into the Des Plaines River, police said.

Crews pulled the man, thought to be in his late 20s or early 30s, from the water and took him to Resurrection Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, according to Schiller Park Fire Department Battalion Chief Mike Cesaretti.

The other three suspects are in custody, police said.
