Saturday Funeral Planned For Chicago Congressman's Grandson

CHICAGO (AP) — A funeral is planned Saturday for a Chicago congressman's grandson who was shot dead after an argument about basketball shoes.

A spokeswoman for U.S. Rep. Danny Davis says 15-year-old Javon Wilson's funeral will be Saturday at Carey Tercentenary AME Church on Chicago's South Side. A wake will be at 10 a.m. followed by services at 11 a.m.

A Cook County judge on Sunday denied bail for a 16-year-old boy and 17-year-old girl charged with first-degree murder in the teen's death. Authorities say Wilson was shot in the head. Police said the two were arrested after they were identified as suspects in Friday's shooting.

Chicago has seen a dramatic rise in the number of shootings and homicides, with August being the deadliest month in the city in two decades.
