Sanofi Recalls Injectors Used For Allergic Reactions
CHICAGO (CBS) -- For patients suffering life-threatening allergic reactions, an epinephrine injection can be a life-saver.
However, Sanofi, the maker of the popular injector Auvi-Q, is recalling its product out of fears the dosage may be incorrect.
Bucktown mom Susie Holquist keeps several Auvi-Q injectors handy because of her 12-year-old daughter's allergy to peanuts and tree nuts.
"They're convenient," Holquist said. "I keep them in the car."
People who have one of the recalled epinephrine injectors can call their doctors and get a prescription for a new and different auto-injector.
That means people like Holquist need to find an alternative like an EpiPen, which doctors say could create a shortage.
Customers can call 1-866-726-6340 to get information on how to return their Auvi-Q and get a refund or a new injector.
